Steel Plates

Carbon steel plates, Stainless Plate and Aluminium plates have versatile applications in different industries. It is classified according to the carbon content, Nickel content from low to high. It is also classified according to its usage and application.

Different types of carbon steel plates are used in machinery and production companies as the base material for component construction. Its durable property makes it ideal for various manufacturing parts. Apart from carbon steel plates, there are vessel steel plates, shipbuilding or construction steel plate, structural steel plate, pipeline, and stainless steel plates.

The steel plates fall into two main categories:

Carbon Steel Plates

Carbon steel can be divided into three main categories:

  • Low carbon steel – Low carbon steel is a type of steel that has small carbon content, typically in the range of 0.05% to 0.3%. Its reduced carbon content makes it more malleable and ductile than other steel types. Low carbon steel is also known as mild steel.
  • Medium carbon steel – Medium-carbon steels are similar to low-carbon steels except that they contain carbon from 0.30% to 0.60% and manganese from 0.60% to 1.65%. These steels are mainly used for making shafts, axles, gears, crankshafts, couplings, and forgings.
  • High carbon steel – High carbon steels, as their name suggests, are steels with high carbon content. If iron is heated to a high temperature, it dissolves carbon, which would normally precipitate upon cooling. However, if this liquid metal is cooled very quickly by ‘quenching’ it in water, the carbon is trapped and distorts the structure of the substance, forming high carbon steel.

Stainless Steel Plates

Stainless steel, on the other hand, can be grouped into five main types:

  • Austenitic – Austenitic refers to an alloy consisting mainly of austenite. The most widely used grade of stainless steel is austenitic. Austenitic alloys contain a high percentage of nickel and chromium, which makes them, and the steel made from them, very resistant to corrosion.
  • Ferritic – Ferritic stainless steel is really defined as a straight chromium non-hardenable class of stainless alloys which have chromium ranging from 10.5% to 30% and a carbon level under . 20%. These steels are essentially non-hardenable by heat treatment and only slightly hardenable by cold rolling.
  • Martensitic – Martensite is a very hard form of steel crystalline structure. It is named after German metallurgist Adolf Martens. By analogy the term can also refer to any crystal structure that is formed by diffusionless transformation.
  • Duplex – Duplex stainless steel is a type of stainless steel that is composed of grains of two types of stainless steel material, austenitic and ferritic. The word “duplex” refers to the two-phase microstructure of ferritic and austenitic steel grains.
  • Precipitation – The precipitation hardening (PH) stainless steels are a family of corrosion resistant alloys some of which can be heat treated to provide tensile strengths of 850MPa to 1700MPa and yield strengths of 520MPA to over 1500MPa – some three or four times that of an austenitic stainless steel such as type 304 or type 316.

SIZES:

  1. Thickness – 1.00mm up to 85.0mm
  2. Width – 1,219mm (4ft.) up to 3,048mm (10ft.)
  3. Length – 2,438mm (8ft.) up to 11,500mm(38ft.)

Aluminum Steel Plate

Aluminum is the second most widely specified metal in buildings after steel, and is used in all construction sectors, from commercial buildings to domestic dwellings.

Aluminum is incredibly popular because it is Lightweight, Strong, Resistant to corrosion, Durable, Ductile , Malleable, Conductive, Odorless.

Aluminum is also theoretically 100% recyclable with no loss of its natural properties. It also takes 5% of energy to recycle scrap aluminum the what is used to produce new aluminum.

other benefit of using aluminum is its air tightness. The cracks that can naturally occur in materials in the window frames and Major source of air leakage, which can increase the heating and cooling load of buildings.

One of the Aluminum’s primary appeals to specifiers is its exceptional strength o weight ration. At 2.7g/cm2, Aluminum is 666% lighter than steel. It is also far less susceptible to brittle fractures. Indeed, when aluminum and steel structures are compared, aluminum’s greater modulus of elasticity means that weight ratios of 1:2 are easily attained.

MILD STEEL (MS) PLATES

Mild steel is suitable for mechanical engineering and general purpose fabrication. Its strength makes it a terrific choice of material for the construction of cages, frames, fencing and in other applications where it will not be subjected to high stress.

Mild steel is a relatively ductile material as it contains a smaller amount of the hardening alloy – carbon – than other carbon steels. It has a low tensile strength of around 400MPa.

Carbon steel is sometimes referred to as ‘mild steel’ or ‘plain carbon steel’. The American Iron and Steel Institute defines a carbon steel as having no more than 2 % carbon and no other appreciable alloying element. Carbon steel makes up the largest part of steel production and is used in a vast range of applications.

Does Mild Steel Rust?

Yes. Mild steel, also known as carbon steel, will rust over time unless it is treated with some sort of protective coating to prevent the steel from coroding. Mild steel has a low carbon content, and the carbon does not help prevent the steel from rusting. Elements that are introduced to steel like molybdenum, titanium and chromium can improve the corrosion resistance of steel, but it does not make the steel rust proof.

Several common areas in which mild steel might be used:

  • Structural steel
  • Signs
  • Cars
  • Furniture and decorations
  • Wire
  • Fencing
  • Nails

Tubular Steel / Steel Tubes

Steel Tube is also known as Hollow Structural Section (HSS) is a type of metal profile with a hollow tubular cross-section. It is strong, tough, and durable. It can be welded or seamless. Its versatility lends it to a range of applications in different industries. Each year millions of tonnes of steel tubing are produced.

Steel tubing is a versatile material that is available in round, square, and rectangular shapes. It is typically made from a variety of different alloys, like aluminum and titanium, that provide its strength and other notable properties.

Steel tubing offers a combination of strength, durability, and affordability that make it the ideal choice for a wide range of applications, from heat exchangers to staircase handrails to truck and trailer manufacturing. Industrial Metal Supply offers steel tubes in a variety of standard sizes and profiles, as well as steel tubing options for specialty applications.

Hot Rolled Steel Tubing

This steel tube has been processed using very high temperatures and a series of rollers to make it easier to work with. Hot rolling keeps the material free from internal stresses. This type of tubing is found frequently in the construction industry, but not for precise applications.

Cold Rolled Steel Tubing

This steel tubing begins as hot rolled steel but is processed even further to create a more finished surface and provide additional strength. This process is more suited for applications that have strict tolerance, straightness, and surface condition requirements because cold rolling is a more precise finishing method.

Galvanized Steel Tubing

This steel tube has been treated with a galvanized coating that makes the material more resistant to corrosion and extends the material’s life. Because the material is corrosion-resistant, it is often used for structural tubing in projects like bridges and fences where it may be subjected to environmental conditions.

What is tubular steel made of?

Made from raw materials including iron, aluminum, carbon, manganese, titanium, vanadium, and zirconium, steel tubes are central to pipe production for applications spanning heating and plumbing systems, highway engineering, automobile manufacturing, and even medicine (for surgical implants and heart valves).

Common Applications of Tubular Steel

Steel has many uses throughout a variety of industries, and one of the most common and wide-ranging types is tubular steel or steel tubing. It resists corrosion and is lightweight but it’s much stronger than similarly sized plastic tubes. Custom steel tubing can be decorative and imaginative, or it can be simple and purely functional – with lots of space in between.

Applications For Steel Tube

Steel tubes are widely used in industrial and domestic settings. In industry, steel tubes are valued for their strength and ability to withstand extremes of temperature, pressure and destructive elements. In domestic settings, steel tubes are used in appliances and gas pipes. If you look behind your refrigerator you’ll likely see some steel tubing.

Top steel tubing applications include:

  • Construction and Engineering – The construction and engineering industries use hollow structural sections (HSS). HSS is a form of steel tubing and is commonly circular, square, or rectangular. In the UK the term HSS is not used. Instead, the basic shapes are named CHS (circular), SHS (square), and RHS (rectangular). Rectangular HSS is commonly used in welded steel frames which are subjected to loading from different directions. Square and circular HSS are often used as columns.
  • Automobile Manufacturing – The automobile industry has been using steel tubes in ever-increasing quantities since the early ‘90s. Precision steel tubes are used in the internal parts of the vehicle: in the suspension, fuel injection, and vehicle control systems.

For a cost-effective, high-strength material, tubular steel remains the best material for many applications.

Steel Beam – Wide Flange Beam, H-Beam, and I-Beam

Hot-rolled steel beam with H-shaped cross section, used mainly in piling and retaining structures. H-beam is developed and optimized from I-beam, a kind of economical profiled steel with a better mechanics capabilities. The web plates and the flanges are in plumb. The inner flange runs parallel to the outer one. Its flanges are very straight and the edges are clear, especially named by the similarity between the section shape and the letter “H”.

Steel I-beams are used for a variety of structural applications. Specific terminology is used to describe I-beam characteristics and properties.

Steel I-beams can be found in nearly all construction projects, from skyscrapers and highways to residential construction and industrial cranes. The properties of the I-beam make it an optimal choice to balance beam strength and weight. Most of an I-beam’s cross sectional area is located away from the neutral axis of the beam, resulting in a high moment of inertia, or “I” value.

Steel Beams can be produced in accordance to different standards like ASTM, JIS, EN, BS, DIN.

Below are some of the most common sizes of steel beams.

Steel Rebars – RC Bars, Deformed Bars, Reinforcing Bars

A steel rebar (short for reinforcing bar), also known as reinforcing steel, reinforcement steel, or a deformed bar, is a common steel bar, and is commonly used as a tensioning device in reinforced concrete and reinforced masonry structures holding the concrete in compression. It is usually formed from carbon steel, and is given ridges for better mechanical anchoring into the concrete.

The surface of the steel rebar may be patterned to form a better bond with the concrete.

Concrete is a material that is very strong in compression, but relatively weak in tension. To compensate for this imbalance in concrete’s behavior, rebar is cast into it to carry the tensile loads. Most steel reinforcement is divided into primary and secondary reinforcement, but there are other minor uses:

  • Primary reinforcement refers to the steel which is employed to guarantee the resistance needed by the structure as a whole to support the design loads.
  • Secondary reinforcement is employed for durability and aesthetic reasons., by providing enough localized resistance to limit cracking and resist stresses caused by effects such as temperature changes and shrinkage.
  • Rebar is also employed to confer resistance to concentrated loads by providing enough localized resistance and stiffness for a load to spread through a wider area.
  • Rebar may also be used to hold other steel bars in the correct position to accommodate their loads.
  • External steel tie bars can constrain and reinforce masonry structures, as illustrated by the Nevyansk Tower or ancient structures in Rome and the Vatican.

Below table are the specifications and weight references for deformed bars:

* Maximum yield strength of Weldable steel bars shall not exceed 540 MPa
** Tensile strength shall not be less than 1.25 time the actual yield strength

Copper Tubes/Copper Pipes

Copper Pipes are commonly used in the construction industry for water supply lines and refrigerant lines in HVAC (heating, cooling, and air-conditioning) systems. Copper pipes can be manufactured as soft or rigid copper and offer excellent corrosion-resistance and reliable connections. The three most common types of copper pipe used in residential and commercial construction are Type K, Type L, and Type M. A fourth type, used for drain-waste-vent, or DWV, piping, can be found in some older homes.

Copper Tubes/Pipes Applications

Type K Copper Tubes/Pipe

Copper Pipes are commonly used in the construction industry for water supply lines and refrigerant lines in HVAC (heating, cooling, and air-conditioning) systems. Copper pipes can be manufactured as soft or rigid copper and offer excellent corrosion-resistance and reliable connections. The three most common types of copper pipe used in residential and commercial construction are Type K, Type L, and Type M. A fourth type, used for drain-waste-vent, or DWV, piping, can be found in some older homes. Has the thickest wall of all the common types. It is used for water distribution, fire protection, oil, HVAC, and many other applications in the construction industry. Type K pipe is available in a rigid and flexible form and can be used with flared and compression fittings. It is recommended for main water lines and underground installations because its thickness helps it withstand the pressure from backfilled earth in trenches.

Type L Copper Tubes/Pipes

Used for interior plumbing, fire protection, and some HVAC applications. It is available in rigid and flexible forms and can be used with sweat, compression, and flare fittings. Type L is considered the most common type of copper piping, as it can be used in many more applications than Type K. Flexible Type L copper can be used to repair or replace old water lines, although rigid tubing is more durable. Type L also can be used outside the home where it will be directly exposed. Type L copper is thinner than Type K but thicker than type M.

Type M Copper Tubes/Pipes

Thinner than both type K and L copper. Sold in both rigid and flexible forms, Type M is used most commonly for domestic water service and vacuum systems. It can be used with sweat, compression, and flare fittings. Type M tubing is favored for residential work for its relatively low price; a thinner wall means less copper and thus a lower price. Type M copper is not always allowed by plumbing codes in all areas and applications. Always check with the local building authority for restrictions on its use.

Seamless Steel Pipes

Seamless (SMLS) pipe is formed by drawing a solid biller over a piercing rod to create the hollow shell. As the manufacturing process does not include any welding, seamless pipes are perceived to be stronger and more reliable. Historically seamless pipe was regarded as withstanding pressure better than other types, and was oftern more easily available then welded pipe.

Solid Steel has been supplying Seamless pipes for over 2000MT due to its high demand. It ensures to provide the standard specifications.

It also serves with Material, Product and/or Inspection Certificates (Mill Test Certificates) to assure its quality and for the satisfactory feedback from the client.

There are two(2) sub-categories for Seamless Steel Pipes. These are Carbon Steel Pipes and Stainless Steel Pipes.

Carbon Steel Seamless Pipes

In carbon steel, the main alloying element is carbon. It has a higher carbon content, which gives the steel a lower melting point, more malleability and durability, and better heat distributions

Stainless Steel Seamless Pipes

Stainless steel characteristically has a minimum of 10.5% chromium by weight, means has a larger percentage of chromium in it as compared to carbon steel, which is what grants it the ability to resist corrosion.

Below are the types of Welded Steel Pipes:

ERW PIPES

Electric Resistance Welded (ERW) Pipes are welded longitudinally manufactured from Strip / Coil and can be manufactured upto 25″ OD. ERW pipe cold formed from a ribbon of steel pulled through a series of rollers and formed into a tube which is fused through a electric charge. It is mainly used for low / medium pressure applications such as transportation of water / oil. Applicable for both Stainless Steel Pipes and Carbon Steel Pipes.

EFW PIPES

Electric Fusion Welded (EFW) Pipe is a welded pipe formed by rolling plate and welding the seam. The EFW pipe is the most popular process for large diameter pipe uses a longitudinal seam weld. The welds are made by heating with an electric arc between the bare metal electrodes. Applicable only to Carbon Steel Pipes.

LSAW PIPES (Straight Welded Pipes)

Longitudinally Submerged Arc Welding (LSAW) pipes use single plate steel as raw material, applied double-sided submerged arc welding. The finished products have larger specifications and the welding joints have excellent ductility, plasticity and good sealing. LSAW pipes have large diameter, thick applicable only to Carbon Steel Pipes.

SSAW PIPES (Spiral Pipes, Spiral Welded Pipes)

SSAW Pipe (Spiral Submerged Arc-Welding Pipe) also called HSAW pipe, welding line shape like a helix. It is using the same welding technology of Submerged Arc-Welding with LSAW Pipes. Differently SSAW pipe is spiral welded where the LSAW is longitudinally welded. Manufacturing process is rolling the steel strip, to make the rolling direction have an angle with the direction of the pipe center, forming and welding, sot he welding seam is in a spiral line. Applicable only to Carbon Steel Pipes.

Black Iron Pipes (B.I. Pipes)

Black Iron Pipes refers only to the surface treatment of the pipes, whereas it is treated or coated with black paint. It is applicable only to carbon steel pipes.

Black Iron Pipes are made of steel that has not been galvanized. Its name comes from the scaly, dark-colored iron oxide coating on its surface that prevents rust. Black steel pipes are cut and threaded to fit.

  • Used for pipes in oil and petroleum industries
  • For water, gas and sewerage purposes
  • Low-pressure hot water heating pipes
  • Water wells and pipes for various automotive and industrial applications

The primary purpose of black steel pipe is to carry natural gas into homes and businesses. The pipe is manufactured without a seam, making it a stronger and safer pipe to carry gas.

The black steel pipe is also used for fire sprinkler systems because it is more fire-resistant than galvanized pipe.

GALVANIZED IRON PIPES (G.I. PIPES)

Galvanized Iron (G) Pipes refers to the surface treatment of the pipes, whereas it is treated or coated with zinc coating through hot-dipped zinc bath. It is applicable only to carbon steel pipes.

Galvanized Iron Pipes are manufactured using mild steel strips of Low Carbon Steel Coils. The strips are passed through a series of fin rolls to give them a circular shape. The slit ends of the strips are then welded together by continuously passing high frequency electric current across the edges.

GI Pipes are generally used for distribution of treated or raw water in rural or urban areas. These pipes are cheaper, light weight and easy to handle.

Galvanized Iron Pipes are classified into 3 Grades based on their weight per meter and inner diameter thickness. The more the thickness, better the performance and durability. According to the IS 1239, each pipe shall bear a color strip across the circumference for identifying the “class” of the GI pipes.

Rectangular and Square Steel Tubing

Steel rectangular tubing and steel square tubing products are constructed from hot rolled metal coils that are hollowed out to create their tubular shape. Rectangle steel tube and steel square tubing products are also low in cost and offer a greater strength-to-weight ratio than other types of shaped metal products. In addition, rectangle steel tubes and square steel tubings are regularly utilized throughout the world for their outstanding strength and rigidity.

Rectangular and Square Steel Tubing Applications

Steel rectangular tube and steel square tube products are specifically designed to add additional strength to a project while also concealing wires, pipes, and other types of moving parts. Since steel square and rectangle tubes can be easily welded, punched, formed, and drilled, they provide a lightweight alternative to other types of steel products, such as wide flange steel and I-beams. Some of the applications that regularly utilize steel rectangular tubing and square steel tubing include:

  1. Metal structures
  2. General fabrication
  3. Transportation equipment
  4. Manufacturing
  5. Frames
  6. Truck beds

The construction and engineering industries use hollow structural sections (HSS). HSS is a form of steel tubing and is commonly circular, square, or rectangular. In the UK the term HSS is not used. Instead, the basic shapes are named CHS (circular), SHS (square), and RHS (rectangular).

Rectangular hollow structural sections (HSS) are commonly used in welded steel frames which are subjected to loading from different directions. Square and circular HSS are often used as columns.

Difference Between Square Tube and Rectangular Tube

The cross-section of the square tube is square; the cross-section of the rectangular tube is rectangular.

Square Tubes are used for:

  • construction
  • machinery manufacturing
  • steel construction projects
  • shipbuilding
  • solar power brackets
  • steel structure engineering
  • power engineering
  • power plants
  • agricultural and chemical machinery
  • glass curtain walls
  • automotive chassis
  • airports
  • boiler construction
  • highway railings
  • building construction
  • pressure vessels
  • oil storage tanks
  • bridges
  • power station equipment

Square tubing is commonly used in industrial and domestic settings because of the numerous benefits it provides. Industries value square tubing for its strength and ability to withstand extremes of temperature, pressure and destructive elements. In domestic settings, square tubes are used in appliances, pipes, and fencing.

While rectangular tubes are used for:

  • a large number of pipes that are used to transport fluids, such as petroleum, natural gas, water, gas, steam, etc.
  • the manufacture of mechanical parts and engineering structure
  • used to produce a variety of conventional weapons, barrels, shells, and soon.

Rectangular tubes are generally used for maintenance and structural purposes. Some examples of applications would be building construction, railings, and truck frames. They are measured by their outside dimensions and their wall thickness.

Which is Stronger, Square or Rectangle Tubing?

Obviously, this depends on the relative size of the sections. Assuming that the rectangular section’s smallest dimension is equal to (or greater than) the square section’s side and their thicknesses are equal, then the rectangular section will always be stronger than the square, for any load in any orientation.
Rectangular and square steel tubing provides great strength-to-weight ratios, which means that less steel by weight is required to accomplish the job. These tubing products also provide outstanding support and compression features, which allow this shape of steel to be used for a wide range of column applications.
For applications that require the strongest possible steel, the tube is generally the way to go. It’s known to be significantly stronger than the pipe, and one of the strongest metal formats period.

What are Valves?

Valves are products that are rarely noticed, yet they play a vital role in our daily life. Each time you turn on a water faucet or a gas range, or use your water heater, you operate a valve. Valves help preserve our quality of life by controlling flow of all types. They are essential to our homes and to virtually all manufacturing processes, as well as every industrial plant and system.

There are a large variety of valves and valve configurations for a wide variety of purposes and conditions: different uses (on/off, control), different fluids (liquid or gas; combustible, toxic or corrosive), different materials (metal or nonmetal) and different pressure and temperature conditions (low, medium or high pressure applications and low-, room- or high-temperature applications).

What is the difference between globe valve and gate valve?

Globe valves are usually used for flow regulation, while gate valves are often used for on-off control. Gate valves are cheaper than globe valves. Gate valves have little pressure drop across the valve and provide little resistance to the media flow in the open position.

What is the advantage of gate valve over globe valve?

Gate valves are an energy-efficient valve option, as the movement direction or ram is perpendicular to the media flow direction. As a result, less power is consumed when opening or closing the gate valves in comparison to globe valves. Due to their energy efficiency, they help reduce total ownership costs.

Pipe Fittings, Elbows, and Tees Supply

Pipe Fittings

A pipe fitting is used in pipe plumbing systems to connect straight pipe or tubing sections, to adapt to different sizes or shapes, and for other purposes, such as regulating or measuring fluid flow. Piping or tubing are usually (but not always) inserted into fittings to make connections. To avoid confusion, connections are conventionally assigned a gender of male or female, respectively abbreviated as “M” or “F”. An example of this is a “3/4 inch female adapter NPT,” which would have a corresponding male connection of the same size and thread standard (in this case, NPT).

While there are hundreds of specialized fittings manufactured, some common types of fittings are used widely in piping and plumbing systems.

Elbows

An elbow is a pipe fitting installed between two lengths of pipe or tubing to allow a change of direction, usually a 90° or 45° angle, though 22.5° elbows are also made. The ends may be machined for butt welding, threaded (usually female), or socketed, etc. When the two ends differ in size, the fitting is called a reducing elbow or reducer elbow.

Couplings

A coupling connects two pipes to each other. If the size of the pipe is not the same, the fitting may be called a reducing coupling or reducer, or an adapter. By convention, the term “expander” is not generally used for a coupler that increases pipe size; instead the term “reducer” is used.

Reducers

A reducer allows for a change in pipe size to meet hydraulic flow requirements of the system, or to adapt to existing piping of a different size. Reducers are usually concentric but eccentric reducers are used when required to maintain the same top- or bottom-of-pipe level.

Tees

A tee is the most common pipe fitting. It is available with all female thread sockets, all solvent weld sockets, or with opposed solvent weld sockets and a side outlet with female threads. It is used to either combine or split a fluid flow. It is a type of pipe fitting which is T-shaped having two outlets, at 90° to the connection to the main line. It is a short piece of pipe with a lateral outlet. A tee is used for connecting pipes of different diameters or for changing the direction of pipe runs.

Flanges

A flange is a protruded ridge, lip or rim, either external or internal, that serves to increase strength (as the flange of an iron beam such as an I-beam or a T-beam); for easy attachment/transfer of contact force with another object ; or for stabilizing and guiding the movements of a machine or its parts (as the inside flange of a rail car or tram wheel, which keep the wheels from running off the rails).

Flanges are designed to the following pressure ratings: 150 lb, 300 lb, 400 lb, 600 lb, 900 lb,1500 lb and 2500 lb or 10 Bar, 15Bar, 25Bar, 40Bar, 64Bar, 100Bar and 150Bar. Various types of flanges are available depending upon the type of their constructional features.

Types are Slip On Blind, Weldneck, Socketweld, Threaded, Lap Joint, Orifice and Spectical Blinds, Spacers. Sizes available: 1/4″ through to any size. Wall thickness: Schedule 5s through to Schedule XXS and heavier. Special items according to customer drawings.

What are flanges for?

Flanges are generally used when there is a connection to valves, in-line instruments and/or connection to equipment nozzles is required. Flange fittings generally involve pressing two surfaces to be joined tightly together, by means of threaded bolts, wedges, clamps, or other means of applying high compressive forces.

Flanges are used to connect pipes with each other, to valves, to fittings, and to specialty items such as strainers and pressure vessels. A cover plate can be connected to create a “blind flange”. Flanges are joined by bolting, and sealing is often completed with the use of gaskets or other methods.

Steel Bolts and Nuts

Bolts are often made of steel, and where resistance is required to weather or corrosion, they may be galvanized, or stainless steel, brass, zinc or titanium may be used.

A bolt is a type of fastener, usually made from metal, that commonly comprises a head at one end, a chamfer at the other, and a shaft characterized by an external helical ridge known as a ‘thread’.

Bolts are typically used to hold materials or objects together, or to position objects.

Bolts typically require a nut which is applied via torque while the bolt is held in place or vice versa. Vibration or dynamic loads may loosen nuts, necessitating the use of lock nuts, lock washers or thread lockers which can provide resistance to loosening.

Material Specs for Bolts:
DIN931, ISO4014, DIN933, ISO4017, JIS B 1186 (F8T, F10T), ANSI B18.2.3.1, BS1768, ASTM A193, ASTM A307B, ASTM A325, ASTM A490

Material Specs for Nuts:

Gaskets

A gasket is a mechanical seal which fills the space between two or more mating surfaces, generally to prevent leakage from or into the joined objects while under compression.

Gaskets allow for “less-than-perfect” mating surfaces on machine parts where they can fill irregularities. Gaskets are commonly produced by cutting from sheet materials.

Gaskets for specific applications, such as high pressure steam systems, may contain asbestos. However, due to health hazards associated with asbestos exposure, non-asbestos gasket materials are used when practical.

Most major manufacturing sectors, including the automotive, aerospace, electronics, appliance, and military industries, employ gaskets in their production methods.

Gaskets are available in a large number of specifications, making proper gasket selection an important step in many manufacturing processes. They can be formed from a wide range of materials, such as metals, rubbers, plastics, corks, foams, and composite substances.

Gasket Types:

Spiral wound, Kammprofile, Metal ring joint, Metal Jacket, Flange insulation set, Rubber coated ring joint, Pure graphite, Non-asbestos, EPDM.

Other Pipe Parts

End Cap

A type of pipe fitting, usually liquid or gas tight, which covers the end of a pipe. A cap is used like plug, except that the pipe cap screws or attaches on the male thread of a pipe. A cap may have a solvent weld socket end or a female threaded end and the other end closed off. In plumbing systems that use threads, the cap has female threads. Industrial caps can be round, square, rectangular, U-shaped, I-shaped and may have a round hand grip or a flat hand grip.

Stub-End

A lap joints stub ends and it associated slip on flange in a piping system allows quick disconnection of the particular section involved. Stub ends are installed in pairs and mated together with two lap joint flanges. The surface of the stub end has a phonographic serrated gasket surface which prevents leakage at the joint. Using stub ends allows sections of the line to be opened for cleaning, inspection or quick replacement etc, without the need to re-weld.

Weldolet

Whenever branch connections are required in size where reducing tees are not available and/or when the branch connections are of smaller size as compared to header size, olets are generally used.

The following are few configurations of olet connections:

  • Flanged Olet
  • Socket-Weld & Threaded Olet
  • Lateral & Elbow Olets
  • Nipple Olet
  • Butt-Weld Olet
  • Swage Nipples
